There was a true synergy with the Essegi team, which gave us confidence. We knew this was a significant and challenging step, but it would equip us to navigate the coming years with much greater peace of mind.

Starting situation

Aster Elettronica Srl is an EMS company based in the province of Vicenza, founded in 1990. With two SMT lines, its activity volumes are constantly growing, requiring the optimization of space and advanced component storage methods in the production area, in order to meet customer demands for traceability.

Before the installation of 3 modules from the Ultraflex series and 2 Pick to Light systems, Aster managed storage in a designated production area equipped with open shelves and a vertical cabinet connected to the ERP. Customer materials retained a numbering system that was not compliant with the company’s coding standards.

The Solution

The solution to the space optimization and traceability needs throughout the production flow was the development of an integrated project to implement storage management systems with 3 elements from the Ultraflex Series, 2 Pick to Light systems, the installation of a material registration station, and the development of ISM integration logic.

This project allowed the existing ERP and storage management systems (vertical warehouse) to communicate with the new smart cabinets and the material registration station by introducing Essegi Automation’s ISM software logic and achieving compliance with the company’s material coding standards through the implementation of a unique code.

Objectives and advantages

  • Possibility to track all incoming materials in detail, with an accompanying photographic archive.
  • Time savings in the operations of loading and unloading reels into the automated warehouse.
  • Intelligent management of material positions on external shelves and in humidity-controlled cabinets using PDA and Pick to Light systems.
  • Development of ISM software logic to achieve full integration of all storage and production management systems, enabling real-time communication and responding to the demand for complete component traceability and availability.
