Adaptability, Update, Listening.

The latest edition of Essegi Day, a two-day event organized by Essegi Automation for its existing customers, revolved around three key themes: Adaptability, Update, and Listening. These focal points shaped the discussions and activities, highlighting the company’s commitment to addressing the evolving needs of its clients in an ever-changing market landscape.

  • Adaptability is the theme chosen for this fourth edition of Essegi Day, corresponding to the guiding principle of Essegi Automation’s Research and Development activities in response to the needs of its customers, who must face not only a rapidly and constantly evolving market but often new and unforeseen scenarios. It is now clear to everyone that the electronics manufacturing sector is heavily influenced by various geopolitical, economic, and social factors that affect its performance. It is impossible to ignore these influences and expect to be immune to the different contexts in which one finds oneself operating at any given time. This is why our mantra, “Just in case, Just in time,” born to respond to the effects of the pandemic on material supply, remains relevant and timely.
  • Update represents, from the customer’s perspective, the educational outcome that the company expects to capitalize on through this experience. A toolkit that is not only useful for operators in their daily activities but also provides decision-makers with the tools to make the most suitable future choices for their growth plan and production context. This indeed presents a unique opportunity for Essegi Day participants to engage directly with our specialists on specific issues and functionalities of our component storage and traceability systems, as well as to receive previews of new products/services and learn about all possible configurations and integrations with existing systems.
  • Last, but not least, Listening by Essegi Automation to its customers, their needs, those emerging on the horizon, and those still unanswered in the market. This activity is of fundamental importance for the entire Essegi Automation team and management to navigate the near future of intelligent storage and traceability systems within the production flow of electronic assembly companies. Through active listening to customers, regarding both operators and potential issues related to the use of machinery, as well as purchasing managers and the needs they interpret, Essegi Automation gathers extremely useful material to ensure constant and timely support for the customer post-installation, but also to correctly direct research and development activities and provide concrete answers and competitive solutions in their growth journey. To this end, a new role has been established as a technical-commercial interface dedicated to existing customers with the aim of keeping a direct channel of communication and mutual discussion open and active. This is a key role for both customers and Essegi Automation to remain constantly aligned on customer needs and the latest developments in products and services.

The Training and Update Program

This year, the ESSEGI Day saw the participation of 30 Italian electronic assembly companies and about 70 participants over the two-day event. The day’s program included an introductory presentation on the evolution of Essegi Automation by CEO, Matteo Padoan , who framed the event’s theme within the growth journey of companies, speaking about “Adaptability in Growth,” rather than change. Reactivity, in fact, is not only measured in emergencies but also in the ability to anticipate future scenarios and should be considered a factor of development and success.

This was followed by a technical deep dive into all the new features of the AutoSMD Software by Elisa Anna Selmo, Software Advance Support Team Leader and Filippo Zanetti, Application Manager. A comprehensive overview highlighted the commitment of Essegi Automation’s software team to develop concrete solutions to meet operational needs and integration demands, reaffirming once again the extraordinary capability of the AutoSMD software to interact with all production, logistics, and management systems used in electronics manufacturing.

In the second part of the morning, participants divided into groups and rotated through the first three practical workshops:

THT Management using case boxes and PDA

Simone Pretto, Service Engineer, illustrated all possible storage methods for THT components using large, ESD-compliant case boxes and all the software functionalities for material tracking, even in external locations via PDA.

Mobile Autoincoming

The Mobile Autoincoming is the new solution presented by Mattia Pauletto, Technical Sales. This mobile solution allows for the swift registration of incoming materials via PDA, facilitating the management of bulky items without the need for movement, such as THT components, semi-finished products, finished goods, and other materials, with the option to verify product compliance with regulations through AVL.

The system is also equipped with the DDT Match function, which enables cross-referencing of order lines and direct communication with the management software.

ISM Ultraflex 3600 Front & Full automation

As demonstrated by Alberto Caleari, Area Sales Manager, with the front-loading and unloading solution of ISM Ultraflex 3600, it is possible to make the warehouse or part of it even more efficient in both manual and fully automated versions through AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot), the mobile robot for transporting trays.

Collaboration and Adaptability: The Creative Contribution

The second session of the event was preceded by an intervention from Stefano Zannini, a trainer, speaker, guide and coach with expertise in leadership, who contributed to the theme of adaptability through practical activities among participants and an intense reflection on how to develop this capacity in the face of unforeseen situations. Titled “What if all of a sudden…? Adaptability, Creativity, and Collaboration in Today’s World Challenges,” Zannini shared with participants some practical tools for effective collaboration in emergency situations, but more importantly, for being open to equally new and unexpected contributions that can turn around problem-solving. These contributions can come from individuals from completely different fields, providing an alternative perspective that is often resolving, activating what Edward De Bono defined as “lateral thinking.” Therefore, even when time is precious, discussion is never wasted time if managed well.

The afternoon workshops covered:

The New Mobile Smart Rack Storage Solution

An indispensable tool in the production space for speeding up loading and unloading operations of materials and supplying lines, well illustrated by Thomas Nardello, Software Developer.

Maintenance of Storage Systems

The practical session on regular maintenance of warehouses by Roberto Burato, Service Team Leader, was very useful for operators to maximize the efficiency of hardware systems and monitor operational processes through ISM software.

Focus Group

The Focus Group was a unique laboratory, an open meeting space for exchange and collaboration with the customer, where suggestions and perspectives were gathered to collaboratively build flexible solutions tailored to each production reality.
